Kids love pizza. It’s almost a fact in this day and age. After all, who doesn’t love pizza? However, sometimes it’s just not feasible to get one large pizza to feed one or two finicky kids who rarely finish more than a slice, if that! Also, money starts to add up, and pizza night can quickly become a financial drain. How can you still enjoy pizza when you want, without picky eaters and money ruining the experience? Try making these mini pizza pockets especially for kids!
8 oz of pre-made dough (we recommend Pillsbury Crescent Seamless Dough)
1 cup of pre-made pizza sauce
1 cup of cheese (we recommend mozzarella)
Your favorite pizza toppings!
How to Make
For this, you’re going to have to preheat your oven to 375 degrees, and get out your cupcake sheets! For this, you’re going to need a pizza cutter or a cookie cutter, whichever you prefer. Roll out the dough, whether you bought it or made it, and cut it into 24 pieces. The cupcake pan should be greased up for 24 pizza pockets, since you won’t be putting them in cupcake liners. We recommend trying to keep the pieces circular, but if you feel better using square pizza dough pieces, then by all means.
This is a great chance for the children to have their own creative fun! Carefully stretch out the dough so that it can fit acceptably in the cupcake pan. Make sure there’s some dough stretching over the edges, as you’ll need these to close over the toppings. In the middle of the pizza dough, put a spoonful or two of pizza sauce to line the cupcake well. Sprinkle just enough cheese over it to create a thick gooey layer, once it heats up. Finally, fill the pizza pocket the rest of the way with your favorite toppings. Children can decide whether they feel like pepperoni or mushrooms, and put as much as the small cupcake well can handle! When you’re done, pull the extra dough back over the toppings to partially close up the pizza pocket. It doesn’t have to be sealed shut if you don’t want, and having an opening at the top will help the toppings cook a little more thoroughly.
Your children can help with almost every step of making their own pizza pockets, and can make a variety of pizza pockets. This is the perfect solution for kids that don’t eat more than a slice before wanting something different!
Bake the pizza pockets for about 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown, and pull out. Be careful, since the pockets will remain hot for quite some time, and make sure that the pizza is either properly cooled inside, or cut open, before a child eats it. You don’t want to deal with burned tongues.
With these easy to make and easier to enjoy pizza pockets, you’ll never have to shell out money for a sub-par pizza experience again.
