There are those of us who love peach crisp (and other delicious desserts), and there are those of us trying to watch what we eat, or lose weight. Unfortunately, sometimes that overlaps. When trying to change how much you eat, do you just give up on sweets? While experts may say so, we say to just change how you get the sweetness! That doesn’t mean ice cream instead of cookies, but rather fruit instead of cake. In this case, peach crisp smoothie instead of peach crisp! Rejoice, for we have made a delicious and mostly-healthy smoothie that tastes exactly like your favorite dessert!
½ cup rolled or steel-cut oats
1 cup water
2 teaspoons sugar, or sweetener to taste (we recommend Splenda)
2 cups or 2 large frozen peaches
¾ cup milk of choice (we recommend sweetened almond milk)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
How to Make
While this smoothie is great, and can be made right away, we recommend starting it the night before. If you have fresh peaches, slice them up and put them in a small baggie, and freeze them. Otherwise, make sure the frozen peaches you bought are still nice and frozen in your freezer! Boil the cup of water, either in the microwave or on the stove, and add in the oats and sweetener. This will allow the maximum amount of time for your oats to absorb the sweetness and water, and for it to cool off. Stick the oats in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, or whenever you’re ready to make your smoothie, all you have to do is combine your oats mix, frozen peaches, and the rest of the ingredients in your favorite blender. Blend until smooth!
This smoothie is incredibly easy to make, especially if you decide to make it in batches. The ingredients given will yield about 16 ounces of smoothie, and in servings of 8 ounces, there’s only about 265 calories! It’s a healthy smoothie because of the little amount of sweetener and other unhealthy additions, and is a great way to start the morning, or get through a long workday. The oats will provide you with a quick sip of complex carbohydrates to keep you full and focused for hours on end, and the peaches will give you a boost of Vitamin C to help keep your immune system up and running. For those of us watching our weight, this is a great alternative to actually taking a slice of that peach crisp, and it’s just as tasty!
Not watching your weight? No worries, this isn’t an exclusive drink. This smoothie is great for anyone who loves something sweet, and can be customized with nearly any fruit. Either way, it’ll taste like a fresh baked crisp or pie, and you can drink it up without feeling guilty or running the risk of burning your tongue.
